One Last Dance
The first time I watched this film I was blown away with all the images. Max has an incredible vision. This film was shot in Cantonese with an all-Asian cast, save Harvey Keitel. So we needed a singer who was born in Hong Kong, if I was going to be sure to get the accent and dialect right for the songs. We used a small orchestra performing Vivaldi-style arpeggiating strings and piano to create the motion and harmony, while building the melodies using the low register of the piccolo, which sounds like an Asian flute but one you can control. I also layered lots of Erhu effects and Pipa melodies to give it the Asian flavor we needed.
