The Perfect Host
When I first met with Nick he had imagined the score to sound like Miles Davis' "On The Corner", which was a great introduction, as Miles has always been a great influential artist to me. When we got started we knew this had to be sonically unique. There were a few temp pieces that were working well but most of this film came to me without any music at all. We found the sound of solo cello and small hand percussion to be very tense and raw sounding. Solo violin and solo cello mixed with an assortment of antique and modern modular analog synths gave us the thick textures and unique sounds of the score. I also was able to use the guitarviol for the first time.
