Youth in Revolt
Miguel wanted to capture the "Youth In Revolt" sound literally - the sound of a 14 year old that just learned how to play guitar enough to play a song. So the guitar performances were intentionally rough. I also wanted to integrate as much of the French alter ego character Francois as possible, by using some traditional French accordion sounds. I tried a number of different guitars and guitar strings until I found the right combination of a Dread acoustic guitar with nylon strings. I knew this score would have to be very minimal with coarse performances, yet super produced sounding. Capitol B was the perfect place to mix and add that buttery smooth, old school warmth to the score.
